Autism in America: Statistics and Warning Signs [INFOGRAPHIC]

Last updated 2 years ago

Did you know that more children are diagnosed with autism every year than with juvenile diabetes, AIDS, or cancer combined? Autism affects about one in 54 boys and one in 252 girls in the United States. Autism is a general term for a group of brain disorders that affect social interaction, behavior, and verbal and non-verbal communication. If you are wondering if your child might have an autism spectrum disorder, there are a number of signs that could indicate autism. Lack of eye contact and inability to understand facial expressions are high on the list of signs, as are difficulty connecting with others and making friends. If your child has autism, you can help him or her by visiting a Los Angeles autism specialist. Take a look at this infographic to learn more about autism statistics and to find out what signs you can watch for in your child. Please share with your friends and fellow parents.
