STAR's Peer Mentorship Program is expanding and opening a
Summer Sports Group!

The focus of this group is “team-building activities,” including soccer, T-Ball, and obstacle courses • Children with ASD are paired with typically developing “peer mentors” who will teach our kids to engage in more initiating, responding, compromising, and good sportsmanship skills • It’s a private-pay program for the children with ASD, but the peer mentors participate free of charge • Incentive for our peer mentors is that they can accrue “being a good friend” hours. We haven’t formally arranged this as “community service” hours with school districts, but this is something we’re looking into. For the time being, we can certainly track what our peer mentors are doing, how much time they’re spending, and we’d be happy to write letters of recommendation for them (if applicable) • Our peer mentors receive training in “how to be a good friend” during the program t update or article here to cast it to all of your destinations.
